Ron,

Re: However, I have never considered Carlos the Jackal much of an asset to anyone. Maybe earlier in his career, but in his latter years he was far more a liabilty than an asset. Countries who once used his "talents", suddenly were eager for him to push on to another country.

Well, if Carlos had become all of a sudden such a worthless has-been then why France and Israel didn't let him on the loose in the first place?! Why did they stubbornly scramble to seize him instead? After all, remember that Carlos was not caught while he was in trunks, sipping a screwdriver somewhere in a Waikiki resort! He was ensnared in Sudan --one of the last remaining Islamic dens on earth. So, it could be that he was not that off.... Yesterday, I heard B. Denard on French radio Europe 1 and, when asked about his future as a 70-year-old, he hinted that he'll stay on duty....

Regards,
Gustave.
