Well now, I'm quite a bit older than you and have lived plenty of history. I study history from newspapers and other accounts rather than rely on the assessments of historians. Most historians have a left wing bent, so you can't expect a bottoms-up perspective. They start with tops-down from a milieu of idealism, what ought to be, the moral imperative. They live in idealism and are protected from the world, so you can't expect a view that isn't tainted by a need to protect the hand that feeds.
