How about, "taxpayers, if you don't like: 1) capital punishment, 2) prayer in school, 3) "peacekeeping operations", blah blah blah (insert controversial public policy issue here) then don't pay for them! Now, doesn't it seem like all this ranting over federally funded abortions is a little silly when there are masses of people opposed to legislation every day and yet their taxes pay for it? Do you seriously think it is a good idea to allow one's individual conscience to dictate public spending on their terms? For example I am opposed to the huge $$ we spend keeping people alive for their last 2 weeks of life. (studies have shown this to be an excessive amount of federal spending). I am opposed to it and therefore refuse to pay. Now what? Can I also refuse to pay for any police force that engages in brutality? OK, the LAPD is off my taxpayer roster... oh this is getting fun..... I am opposed to any tree killing in favor of more highways... what we need are fewer cars not more.... I refuse to pay for more highway spending! Its murder of a tree to me.
