Hmmm. I thought I dealt with the laying vs. lying issue, in which case it ought to be clear.

Unless we assume that the dead are lying.

Actually, Christopher, it is permissible to drop the "who" (or the "that") in a sentence like "many of the people laying....oops!.... lying...
