I am not talking about PCs. IBM is THE LEADER in the Tech industry around the world..... and you can be sure this report will have influence all over the industry, and in places like Asia where IBM is still reverend...

It is now up to Intel and Rambus to reassure others, that IBM's defection doesn't have much bigger ramifications.

Time for them to call out, the First String Damage Control team..

regards
Don

IBM news (if real) is important,but...

I still think the Intel news out Friday is more important in the long run. I would rather see that Intel is dedicated to Rambus in all production levels and strategies than that IBM was grudgingly utilizing its RDRAM license. Let's face it, IBM will never again put itself at the mercy of someone else's propriatary technology. I would be VERY interested if Dell showed no interest in Rambus in its soon to be out high power PCs. After all, IMHO Dell will be operating IBM's PC division in a year or so, either directly or indirectly.

Now, Rambus was never going to get 100% of any market. So, maybe we might, might, slip from the acknowledged (by SDRAM and Double Data Rate advocates)50% market share in two years to 45%. If I do the math, I am still looking at a significantly higher price for this stock at any reasonable P/E. I can wait.

Tomorrow will be fun, though. If Rambus does not sink, it might just make a leap. Wouldn't this be a great week to announce a Camino ship date?

There were rumors some time back that IBM was considering unloading its PC business. Hmmm.
