Dave - Of course you are correct that IBM literally 'gave away' the PC business because of earlier management's myopic view toward it. Hell, they even bailed Intel out when that firm almost went bust converting from memory to micros. I would only say that last year they lost just under 1B in the PC business, this past quarter was down to around 46 million, and Gerstner has said they 'ought to be able to make some money in the PC business'. Time will tell. As to the stock, IBM was okay till the later part of the 1980's, and absolutely sucked till Gertsner was brought in. I lucked out in regard to IBM stock. I started fixing MVS I/O bugs with them in 1980, never bought the stock until it tanked in the early 1990's, then loaded up and was able to leave. As with the vast majority of techs, timing (and some luck) is key!!!

John
