Dram latency is very important for performance. One advantage for drdram can be that the smaller pin count makes it easier to connect directly to the CPU without chip sets. This reduces latency by not making addresses pass through the chip set on the way out and data pass through on the way back. I think that the Timna PCOAC would benefit by this and have higher performance than you might otherwise think.
