China preps digital cameras
EETimes - May 31, 1999, Issue: 1063

Beijing - China's digital-camera market is seeing increasing
competition as overseas market leaders step up their efforts here and
a handful of Chinese manufacturers evaluate single-chip solutions for
their emerging designs.

Seagull is evaluating single-chip solutions, including one from LSI
Logic Corp. (Milpitas, Calif.) that has been tapped by several major
camera makers, including Minolta. It has also joined forces with Fudan
University (Shanghai) to develop software.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, whether it is right or wrong

You bet, and I get tired of Vanilla.

I am assuming that you are referring to my initial post. My opinion is that someone who has consistently posted wildly optimistic figures on a company for the past two years and continues to do so without even knowing of the company's basic structure needs to be taken to task and certainly not worshipped as some sort of thread guru. Such misplaced optimism is harmful to the company to the extent that others may form an opinion based upon such posts. If that opinion is considered a personal attack, then to that extent I fired the initial salvo.

However, I personally felt that it was time that such unbridled optimism be challenged. This is not to say that I do not have sincere respect for his capable writing, energy, work ethic, vast knowledge, and enthusiasm. His work is clearly in the top twenty of those I know of in SI. To the contrary, I feel that it was these fine qualities that required my response, since it seemed to me that his perspectives had often been taken as Gospel, yet when I reflected back, I realized that so often his numbers were taken out of thin air, and were in fact not really the hard analysis that they seemed to be.

I had hoped that my post would spark some serious re-evaluation of his view of LSI's prospects, but this not to have been the case. I continue to hope that you or anyone else would wish to join the discussion as to the factual content of these most recent posts. There is a lot of meat on the bone. Clearly he has the capability to respond to the facts and opinions in my recent posts, and then we would really have a great thread, which is why I would love to see K back on the thread (without the attacks on Wilf and Diana, since they cannot defend themselves.) Then you would have a truly outstanding thread.

But at any rate, Life goes on.
