Any chance Allen takes out a biggie?

I've been surprised by how big Allen has been able to make his cable holdings, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's still looking for more -- especially after he takes it public. I don't know enough about CableVision to comment on that. But, both Cox and Comcast are family-owned, so they won't get sold unless the family running them is tired of the business. I've seen some indication that Cox might be willing to sell for a very high price, but no sign that Comcast (run by a 30-something exec for the family) is tiring of the business.

A problem for Allen and especially for GNET if Charter gets too big too fast is that they could lose independence. Right now, Allen is in a position to set some of the standards for internet/TV convergence. His is a big enough system that it can now afford development costs on its own, so Charter may be able to come up with something more compelling than what others offer in that area. I figure our best hope for getting something worthwhile out of this comes from having several companies competing to come up with the best solutions.
