Bid.Com Begins Regularly Scheduled Live STREAMING Video Auctions On The Internet
PR Newswire - June 01, 1999 13:32

Auctions to Utilize Bid.Com's Patented Declining-Price (Dutch) Auction Format

TORONTO, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Bid.Com International Inc. (Nasdaq: BIDS; Toronto: BII) one of North America's leading online auction companies, announced that tonight and this Friday night at 10:00 p.m. EST it will begin to hold regularly scheduled live declining-price auctions. On top of the Company's successful launch in late April and this week's live auction events, auctions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 p.m. EST. Consumers can participate in the live auctions by visiting www.bid.com.

Bid.Com, together with American Interactive Media, Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: AIME) is bringing consumers the Internet's only live streaming video and audio auctions, broadcast by RealNetworks' (Nasdaq: RNWK) Real Broadcast Network in RealAudio and RealVideo. The auctions will be hosted by live presenters including comedians from AIME's ComedyNet, the Internet's only 24- hour comedy channel. Combining a live presenter with RealNetworks' high quality viewing and listening technology provides an added level of interactivity and fun to the auction experience.

"Based on the success of our first live auction, which achieved 90% sell through and made Internet history by incorporating live streaming audio and video, we are moving ahead, making these live auctions regularly scheduled events," said Jeff Lymburner, President of Bid.Com. "The declining-price auction format, powered by Bid.Com's patented technology, demonstrated its value by increasing the ability to sell non-computer related items such as jewelry, collectibles and personal products, categories that also carry superior margins to computers. Our auctions will continue to feature an exciting array of unique merchandise at exceptional prices to the consumer."
