What ever happened to that 6B Saudi bid that LU had going?

I noticed this in a recent ASND press release on its massive Mid-East growth:

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Reuters) - Ascend Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:ASND - news), a U.S. computer networking equipment
maker, said Thursday its Middle East business was growing swiftly as the region's Internet providers multiply and telephone firms seek new
technology.

''It's a very fast growing region for us,'' senior vice-president Francois Barrault said in Dubai after visiting Saudi Arabia, where the
once-banned Internet has opened up and 40 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been licensed.

The winners

In this digital age, builders of information infrastructure such as Cisco Systems (CSCO: news, msgs), Lucent Technologies (LU: news, msgs) and Sun Microsystems (SUNW: news, msgs) will be the winners, according to Kerschner. Also in this camp will be the leading Internet portals such as Yahoo (YHOO: news, msgs) and network owners, such as MCI WorldCom (WCOM: news, msgs) and AT&T (T: news, msgs). The losers will be the commodity producers.
