NEW YORK & HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1999--L J International Inc.
(NASDAQ/NMS-JADE) today announces their e-commerce jewelry web site will be open to the
public starting June 15, 1999.

Yu Chuan Yih, CEO, stated "LJ's e-commerce site is undergoing final beta-testing after one year of
development and the company will issue a further press release when the site is released to the public."
Mr Yih further commented, " LJ's position of being one of the world's largest fully integrated jewelry
manufacturers should allow us to develop a presence in the online marketing of jewelry much as
Amazon.com (NASDAQ- AMZN) has in the book e-commerce business. LJ's web site will also have
an appraisal feature which will allow visitors to the site to guess the actual selling price and win a piece
of jewelry if their guess is the closest to the actual selling price.

LJ International has committed to an extensive marketing program for their e-commerce site, which will
include but not limited to, advertising and key word placement with many major portal sites, as well as
traditional print media in many of the industry magazines and journals. Ringo Ng, CFO, stated "We
plan to make our e-commerce site profitable and are taking the necessary steps to drive traffic to the
site through as many advertising mediums as we deem viable."

LJ International is one of the world's few totally integrated gem set jewelry manufacturers (cutting
gemstones as well as manufacturing fine jewelry). The Company operates four manufacturing facilities
in the PRC that employ around 2,500 skilled craftsmen. The Company produces more than 1,000,000
pieces of fine finished jewelry, and cuts more than 4,000,000 carats of high quality gemstones annually.
