This is getting most discouraging
I hear you, I've seen my supposed worth decrease by a larger amount than I tend to think I'm worth. I'm still very lucky as a small profit taking a year or so ago covered my investment and it's only the profit that diminishes.

I ask myself, "Self", I say" are you going crazy holding on to all those Dell shares while the whole technology market goes into the toilet?". I have to think. It would be crazy not to consider such ideas with the activities of the stock price since the last earnings announcement. Then I ask myself "Self" I ask, " Should I have put my hard earned (and lucky) investment somewhere else? Should I put it somewhere else now?". It makes you think. I try to bury my head in the sand and say "It doesn't matter, it's bound to be better eventually". Then I think. What will the future be like?.

"Self ", I ask, " Is the future going to be dominated by paper and aluminum?" I ask "Is the recovery of the rest of world going to be based on construction or banking? Is the internet going to fade to insignifigance?". NO!, I tell myself, " Any company that will mean anything in the next millenium will be digital". "But Why? WHY? why are we having troubles?".

In a word .... Uncertainty ... I have seen it all my life. My life has been one of computers and they have been universally feared and hated (except by me). They have had the upper hand lately and that fear abated, but it was always there, under the surface. NOW THE Y2K HAS ARRIVED!!!! All those fears are justified! , or are they? Self I ask "Hmm"... "Are all of those technology gains going to go away because the lawyers sue everyone on the planet who typed onto an electronic media?" .

Butting into my conversation with myself is you. Not just you, but all of you. WHAT IS DELL GOING TO DO FOR ME TODAY!? you demand. "Self" I think, "Pretty much what it has done for the last decade, produce the best machines at the lowest prices". BUT! the people demand! Is that enough? Dont they need to sell books and auctions and cars or go out of business? Enquiring Minds Want to Know.

My head goes back into the sand. I have a vision, it's a calendar, It's the year 2000 (January ). I see the world, there was no second comming, there are not unmanned cars clogging the freeways, life goes on. What do the people need? "Self" I say," If they are going to survive in the next millenium they are going to have to be in touch with the digital information world, who can supply them with the equipment they need to thrive?". Then I know, It's Dell, the largest computer company in the world.
