Re: "Hey Elmer, are you aware that the Coppermine IS the PIII? It's not a new chip, just a 0.18 PIII. Exciting, no? When the Coppermine is out, the K7 will be on a 0.18 process too, but you knew that right?
Can you show me these benchmarks that place the PIII faster than the K7 on anything? Because I must say I don't think I believe it."

First off the Coppermine has 256K (or more) on die L2 with lower latency and higher bandwidth, also the .18u process will allow much higher frequencies, but you knew that right? Claims of AMD moving rapidly to .18u are somewhat lacking in credibility, considering AMDs track record. Intel is already in production at .18u. AMD is now only flipping foils. But you knew all this so believe what you want.

As for benchmarks showing the PIII faster than the K7, it is clear that you haven't seen ANY benchmarks or you wouldn't be making that statement as the poor (compared to expectations) K7 benchmarks have been widely discussed here on this thread.

Here you will see the K7 doing very well on Winbench 99 CPUmark but doing very poorly on Winbench99 FPUmark.

Also on the following pages you will see the K7 doing well on some benchmarks and losing to a slower Xeon or PIII on others. Keep in mind that these benchmarks were run on Win98, the one operation system that the Intel processors do the worst on. If you don't want to spoil your day, don't look at the Quake scores.

Now be a good AMDolt and come back with your list of excuses for why the K7 didn't live up to the hype.
