Strangely, none of us has a nice thing to say
about our former attorneys. Is this a common phenomenon?

Not unusual. Transference. In order to become friends with your ex you have to do something with the residual anger/disappointment/hostility (don't tell me it ain't there -- even in the BEST of divorce it's there in some degree or other) to somebody, and your attorneys, who appear to both of you to be the only ones who profited from the mess, are easy targets.

A question: did you use the same attorney for both divorces?
