Bill: I don't think anyone's gonna be able to provide you conclusive information regarding who holds the ~1.9 million shortie positions. That's information which is very hard to glean...

But need I say I'm just as interested as you? ;-) As for VLNC, on a tough market day VLNC more than held its own. This is a good "thang" in my book. Matter of fact OBV(On Balance Volume) is looking pretty SWEEET to me. OBV? Yup, see this URL:

Your question is fair enough. In the absence of specific data pointing to either market makers or hedge funds, it is hard to beat logic over emotion. Logic says the hedge funds short as a natural part of their business model. The reverse is true for market makers. Supermarkets don't sell durable goods and auto dealers don't sell safety pins. My bet is that your bogeys are the hedge funds.
