Bearshark, correct. your average deep-sea oil rig has some 65,000 embedded control systems on board. every single one of them needs to be checked and reprogrammed or replaced if necessary. with the oil industry cutting back on capital expenditure due to last years weakness in crude i doubt that enough has been done to avoid widespread failures. of course i'm only speculating here; i have no facts to support my doubts regarding the oil industry's readiness concerning Y2K. it's the immensity of the problem that seems so daunting to me.
