Druss - Bane of Humanity

Another thing that I noticed....not that it means anything....

Druss decided that I need to be able to tie the flies that I fish....and have a general knowledge of other flies. Sounds good to me....basically warm-water with forays into trout. Nothing too hard there. I should have read the fine print on the 'general knowledge' part. There are 'hook sizes' involved in the tying of flies. Fortunately, most warm-water fish can be dealt with in sizes from 12 or up....in non-fishing terms...from seeable to big muthers. Sadly, there is a class - called midges - involved for trout.
This involves tying bits of fur, feather and tinsel on hooks that are unseeable. And I seem to have 5 thumbs on each hand. Druss would demonstrate....tie bits of unseeable matter on an unseeable hook and wrap some thread that I couldn't see around it and presto, a fly that I couldn't see.
But he was patient....in the beginning. At first he would tie a fly in 5 seconds and say, "See - nothing to it. Now you do it." After a few minute of me trying to find the hook, he would snap the vise on something that I couldn't see and the say, "Now tie it."
Well and good, but it was a struggle....but problems developed. Druss acquired an accent.
By the end of the week, it became, "Schweinhund, you vil tie de fly. If you do not tie de fly I vil make lif verry painful for you." I would try and be rewarded with "Dumkopf, I can see that I will hef to werk on your hackle."
I would start sobbing, " No...No...not the hackle."
Druss would smile evilly, "Yesssss, the hackle pliers will help."
Me...sob,sob..."Not the hackle pliers"
Druss, "Yesssssss, and perhaps the 'whip-finisher', too.
Me....sobbing, "No...no...I can do this...not the whip finisher, too."
Druss..."Vell, if you work hard, dumkopf....maybe we can forget the whip-finisher"

Strangely, the accent disappeared the day he left for Florida....

I noticed that the frogs and snakes seemed to be singing along. But then I noticed the totality of the the sound of the 'critters'. the frogs were contributing a bass 'DRU' and the snakes coming in with a hiss "SSSSS" combining for an evil sounding DRUUUUSSSSSS. And then I noticed the complete lack of fear....even kinship....that was in evidence. It was more than a delicate flower like myself could take...I ran.

Afterwards, Druss tried to tell me that I had been too long in the sun that day. Or had too many root beers. Or nipped a little hard on the 'rheumatiz medicine' during the day. Or a combination of the above.....but I know what I saw.

You decide. Solon knows.

Yes, Lee--I do know. I also know that if Druss says you "had too many root beers", he is letting you off the HOOK, (literally).

The Southern sun does get awfully hot. It is not an outrageous supposition to link the root beer, the sun, and a delicate constitution, with some misperceptions. Why not simply go with it? Besides, the ozone that hangs over those swamps and bogs, does funny things.

You and I both know how painfully fast Druss can move from place to place. I would caution you to find something nice to say about Druss. Surely, you can make something up; that's what having an imagination is all about...

Good luck!
