Did the government stop IBM?

No. They didn't need to because IBM stopped itself. The company has managed to reinvent itself successfully, but it's been a painful process. One of the guests on Charlie Rose last night noted that at the time of the Ma Bell breakup, AT&T had about the same market capitalization as IBM. Today, the combined market cap of T and its progeny is greater than that of Microsoft (counting T, LU, BEL, SBC, BLS, USW, UMG, AIT ). IBM "won" its suit. T "lost" its suit. But who really won in the end?

[Oh, and I tried but just can't resist: IBM "won" largely through its own mistakes in the market, but partly also thanks to the advent of the Ray-Gunz administration with its ineffably corrupt and ultimately treasonous policies and practices.]
