I think I'm going to look seriously at the G400 as you have said... I do indeed have a larger monitor than 17" here at home. Maybe order a G400 MAX and the Hercules both from BUY.COM when they are available here soon and send back the one I like least... thanks for your help.

About the DSL, I was just being silly about "what seems like a decade". I do have the distinction of being one of the first DSL in home customers in rural Virginia, but I didn't get service until January of this year. I only pay $49.95 for my DSL in this wonderfully rural part of the state (Shenandoah Valley), the prices have come down a bit (or maybe it's just that the bandwidth has... I have 384k, not quite the multiple DS3's I have at Whalehost but certainly better than 56k).

I do have a firewall, but I do share your concern for security, particularly with cable modems (even moreso than with DSL).
