Demosthenes, no one deserve to have his "butts kicked around" under any circumstances. Too often people are forced to quote from memory rather then from "valid sources", sometimes the sources themselves are tainted by political or business interests (see the mammoth battle going on between bulls and bears on RMBS using the media which quite shamelessly paints pictures that benefit one side or the other). We are supposed to exchange ideas, when we can we provide support, when we cannot we may say "I hear a rumble about...", after all, by the time information reaches the media, it is too old to be useful anyhow.

The point is to accumulate and exchange as much info as we can and then debate possible ramifications to either investment decisions or even short term trading stands, IMHO.

There absolutely no benefit and no good purpose is served by engaging in personal attacks, verbal pugilism and character assassination, IMHO.

<I know Ian and can vouch for his credibility as your friends have for you. The difference is no one needs to vouch for Ian's credibility because he names his sources and does not expect anyone to just believe him because he is knowledgeable. Anyone who is arrogant enough to sidestep this common courtesy deserves to have their butt kicked around, which, unfortunately but justly has been has been your reward. >

I have to disagree. I know that you have 2 kinds of legitimate posters here on SI. Ones who are good researchers resubmitting data with sources (armchair quarterbacks)and then you have people who live the real world and make observations that might give us insights months before it hits the print.

How is one supposed to document a conversation? Well, the best way to judge anything you read here is with suspicion and to get to know people (and it takes years). Like the previous flurry of people, Stitch is first class and Ian should know it. And like you also say, Ian presents a very high level of contribution as well.

You should be thankful that people like Stitch are willing to share what they know. It's a rare find in this whole SI forum to get someone in the field who will take a chance and publish opinions.

Like Stitch, I've also shared many good bits of information with Ian and I'm very surprised he would feel the need to take on Stitch. Maybe there was a better approach Ian. Certainly, I find it hard to believe after all this time that Ian doesn't have a feel for Stitch, but even if he'd never seen him before, there is a better way to ask for a reference.

Now, let's get back to the topic.

Regards,

Mark

And should be mine, too, I guess. Only in journalism, they call protecting your sources "good ethics," not "arrogance." Credibility comes from quoting sources who are accurate, not necessarily from naming those sources. Just because he's a CEO speaking for his company, that doesn't mean he's right. Just because he's a fab engineer hiding to protect his job, that doesn't mean he's wrong.
