One could believe that Janice's residence in Italy is a kind of karmic retribution for Italy's hosting of Charles Ponzi earlier in the century.

Of course, Ponzi did most of his damage in the States, and Janice does her good work from Italy against scammers in the States, so it's not a perfectly balanced situation.

Ponzi, for those unfamiliar with the man, was an early scam artist who around 1920 was taking in money from folks, using it to pay earlier "investors", and until he was shut down was doing a land-office business. If he had not been shut down, the scheme was doomed anyway, as in a few more months he'd need the entire population of the Earth as investors, then more than that to keep the scheme afloat. He later moved to Florida, while out of jail on a series of bonds and appeals, and became part of "I've got some swamp land in Florida for you".
