Acer set to strike deal with TSMC

Rumours that Acer is about to strike a deal with Taiwanese foundry TSMC are being met with a stone wall of silence.

Stan Shih, CEO of Acer, would only offer a terse "no comment" at a question and answer session at Computex this morning.

TSMC is one of the largest foundries on Taiwan, while Shih has spent the last several months attempting to turn the semiconductor part of Acer's business round.

There is speculation at the show that TSMC could either bail out or even acquire Acer's semiconductor unit. ®
