geez, i read all the posts and got a headache. talk about manipulating the english language! we have had a coupla thread members ask what fud is...now they know.

what has changed? imo nothing.
what are the charges against rambus drdram?

1. it won't be readily available till 4th quarter.
what does readily mean? it will be available in sufficient quantity to meet demand in 3rd quarter and 4th quarter and forward. does sufficient mean readily? maybe when we can buy drdram at wal-mart the writer will consider it to be readily available.

2. it is expensive.
oh damn you samsung! just because you have it right doesn't mean you should make a profit. lower those prices!!
at the end of this year and into 1st quarter next year, as all of the other drdram mfrs come on line prices will go down.

3. drdram will not be in cheap ibm pc's this year.
is this really an indictable offense?? did anyone really expect this?
is this news? the real news was intel telling us over the weekend that rambus will be in the entire line of pc's in another year or two. that little tidbit was conveniently pushed aside. the other real news is rambus will be in ibm pc's this year. how they managed to make that a negative eludes me.

4. sdram has a life.
this is not news. the ceo of rambus told us in january that he thought sdram would have one more iteration. the transitioning of the entire memory industry to drdram could not occur overnight.

i think we have been spammed with electronic news porno.

has anyone really read this news??? came out last night...

Tektronix New High-Performance Measurement Instruments Accelerates Development of Rambus Memory Systems

- Integrated Solution Enables New Computer Architecture Designs -

BEAVERTON, Ore., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today introduced a suite of new instruments designed to work together to provide a complete solution for the most challenging leading-edge digital design applications, including Rambus(R) Memory Systems and next-generation microprocessors. The new integrated solution offers digital design and embedded software engineers robust acquisition performance, customized measurements and analysis that enables and simplifies the debugging, verification and characterization of today's newest electronic designs.

Tektronix' integrated tool set is composed of new performance-leading instruments: The TLA 714 portable and TLA 720 benchtop logic analyzers, the TDS694C digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) and complementary connection devices. The instruments were designed to work together to provide specialized features and optimized performance and a complete tool set for the entire design team.

Rambus technology -- which is rapidly gaining acceptance as the memory standard for use in consumer electronics, portables, communications systems, multimedia, and consumer digital video products -- delivers more than ten times the performance of conventional memory standards. Intel, with the endorsement of leading PC OEMs, is leading the way for its use in performance desktop PCs by the third quarter of 1999. Currently, eight of the world's top-10 semiconductor companies license Rambus technology and seven of the world's top PC makers have shipped systems using the technology.

"A digital design engineer operates in an environment of accelerating technological change under extreme time-to-market conditions," said Rick Wills, president, Tektronix' Measurement Business Division. "The Rambus adoption, for example, is perhaps the single largest, and most quickly adopted, transition in memory performance the industry has ever seen. Tektronix is at the forefront of implementing these new technologies, by providing these designers with integrated solutions featuring the superior measurement and analysis capabilities needed for leading-edge digital design."
