Wireless Internet Access See
Strong Growth
(06/01/99, 5:33 p.m. ET)
By Andrew Dornan, Data Communications

By 2004, more end-users will access the
Internet via handheld mobile terminals than
wireline connections, according to a report
published Friday by the ARC Group, in the
United Kingdom.

The consultancy expects more than 1 billion Internet
subscribers in five years; 750 million will use mobile
terminals, while 670 million will use landlines.

ARC said new technologies and cheaper handhelds are
driving the surge in mobile access. For example, the
report predicts that by 2002 universal mobile
transmission systems (UMTS) and similar
third-generation cellular standards will push bandwidth
to 2 megabits per second, rendering modem links
obsolete. UMTS has been defined by the European
Telecom Standards Institute, but is only starting to be
implemented.

According to ARC, low earth-orbit satellites from by
companieslike Teledesic, in Kirkland, Wash., will bring
mobile data to otherwise unreachable regions by 2004.
It indicates that the shift to wireless Internet access will
be strongest in Western Europe.

Yes, the foresight and vision to see the future of networking; where gigantic wireless and home cable revenue stream make COMS as one of the largest players in the 21st century hyper-media on-line market. Sad to see the weak hands and no-clues selling out at these incredible bargain basement prices as COMS will be many many times more than the current price a few years from now, all imo-
