Neutralism used to mean pro- Soviet, except for Switzerland and Sweden. I am not sure what it means now, but if it is anti- American, who needs it?

Neocon makes a good point.... (read his response)

It could be suggested that permanent seats be awarded to those countries, who meet certain qualifications towards political freedom and human rights (basically those who hold democratic values dearest).

Afterall, the purpose of the UN is to provide a framework where certain inalienable rights are promoted within a democratic structure. Why should non-democratic nations have the right to derail the political agendas of the western nations who created the concept of the UN to begin with??

But Alas... the only way that the situation could be altered would come as a result of another major conflict and as punishment to those nations (they know who they are.. :0) who spend more time causing mischief and subverting democratic norms, than creating added value for the global economy.

Can you the outrage that would be created by calling for a UN vote to revoke the permanent member status of Russia and China??

The odds of success in such an endeavor lie somewhere between zero and zilch.

Regards,

Ron
