Is it common that a broker requires you to have a margin account in order to short? I have a margin account with NDB. I rarely (I mean rarely) dip into margin. I mainly maintain the margin account, so I can short if the opportunity arises (which I also rarely do).

Good advice on margin calls, Rande. Recently I got caught in one, which meant I had to sell securities at the wrong time. I was no longer in the driver's seat.

I wonder if I will take your advice!
