I must protest your conclusion, Chris, that Gates, Allen, and Microsoft were ever part of a Commie plot to destroy the West. When Microsoft first developed Windows, the two-digit year convention was already as widespread as an untreated cancer.

The real culprits were the vacuum tube companies who conspired to delay invention of the transistor and the semiconductor equipment companies who postponed for decades the invention of microchip laser etching equipment.

The combined impact of these two non-inventions was to render computers incapable of loading Microsoft software that required 500 MB of hard drive to store and 35 Megs of RAM to execute. Memory limited to 50 MB of hard drive and 8 MB (or less) of RAM in a computer that filled two huge warehouses forced a compromise in programming that limited 'year' fields to only two columns. This was done long before the first Windows O/S's ever existed. The two-digit year was already a fait accompli when this old picture was taken.

Yep, it was tube manufacturers and semicon equipment makers that have done this. They are the commie plotters, not our Windows heroes.
....or is it 'heros', Mr. Quayle?

JMHO :-)
