Hmm...might perhaps the steep surge since 1/99, historically high PE's, historically low dividend yields, and narrow market breadth also have something to do with the current drop? What about the speculative frenzy among ordinary people (I love the CNBC commercial showing the housewife making a winning trade while tending to her whining kid!). IMO there's plenty of short-term risk left to the downside....BWDIK.

John - a rate hike may have been factored in, though I don't believe 2 1/4 points. In any case, the market will still sell off regardless, just before the meeting; it's just too good an excuse to take some $ off the table.
