Colin, re: TYPE on accounts. I need to clarify my last post. Because DWR and NFSC both used the same system I assumed it was an industry standard and it's not! T-1 is cash and T-2 is margin at every firm but after that they can adopt whatever suits them. So at NFSC and DWR you will find T-0 DVP/RVP, T-1 Cash, T-2 Margin, T-3 Short, and T-4 Legal. Legal items are long in the account but not cleared to transfer, such as a stock certificate that was not signed. So at your firm they used T-5 as identifier for shorts.
I'm still amazed that all our trades really settle with so few problems, given the complexity of the systems. I vote we give a raise to all the people working the cages in back offices everywhere. <gg>
