**OT OT ** FWIW - AOL has other problems other than free ISP: like "connections"??? By: mrobin Reply To: 27187 by IClimbRox Tuesday, 1 Jun 1999 at 8:45 PM EDT Post # of 27324 ATHM isn't the problem. The problem is more that AOL is effectively being locked out of cable systems across the country. Case is fighting a good fight in Washington to gain acces to those coaxial cable lines through regulation, but that is a flawed strategy. The name of the game for AOL is to either buy cable assets themselves, or go whole hog into the digital wireless access to the NET. Look at what ATT, Time Warner, Paul Allen, and Microsoft are doing. They are staking their claim to large, lucrative cable networks with the hopes that this will be the "pipe" used to send broadband signals to the majority of US homeowners. What is AOL doing to combat this. Sit in Washington and complain about the development of monopolies in cable, and on the other hand cut a pretty smart deal with Hughes - Direct TV. I think the Hughes-Direct TV deal was brilliant, but where are the other bets. I'm waiting to see what unfolds.
