What you have just said is also all I know. If this is microsoft-related, my suspicion is that this was the next stage of the joint NT work that MSFT and CPQ announced in September. There was a lot of speculation - even a "scoop pre-announcement" in the press - that such an announcement would be done at Innovate but it didn't happen. Since John Rose was the guy driving much of the activity with Microsoft, that may have gone out the door along with Rose. Another rumor is that it is an "e-buisness" announcement which might or might not include Microsoft. I have not been able to get any more info, neither has "she" on the yahoo thread. At this point I think any positive press would be welcome.

NW, I saw the following blurbs in the 'Spencer F. Katt Rumor Central' column in PC Week this week and thought I'd share it just in case it hadn't been posted: "So, what does it take to build a castle? Apparently, a lot of Compaq stock options. A Rumor Central loyalist sent in a blurb from a local New Hampshire newspaper about the status of Compaq Senior VP John Rose's multimillion-dollar mansion-to-be on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Rose had to get a special exception from the Meredith, N.H., zoning board to construct two 36-foot towers as part of the 9,000-square-foot castle. To give it that neighborly feel, the fortress also will include a 7-foot-high stone wall around the perimeter." THIS IS AN INTERESTING CLIP, PARTICULARY SINCE IT CAME OUT IN MONDAY'S PAPER, AND NOW THE GUY'S GONE. NO DOUBT THEY ARE UNRELATED, BUT INTERESTING NONETHELESS ME THINKS. "There's some debate heating up on the newsgroups about Compaq's plan to replace the Digital and Tandem user organizations (DECUS and ITUG, respectively) with a new Compaq-sponsored group. Some users feel the new group will wind up as a shill organization for Compaq's marketing machine, so they're discussing ways to maintain a strong advocacy voice for Digital and Tandem customers. One proposal: the HUG (Honest Users Group." PC INDUSTRY TRIVIA: BACK IN THE 80s, THE HEATH-ZENITH USER GROUP WAS CALLED "HUG", AND MEMBERS WERE REFERRED TO AS "HUGGIES".
