LOTS

You have to remember, a 21 inch old fashion monitor has about 19 inches of viewable area, whereas the LCD monitors are excatly what they say. If you buy a 15 inch LCD, it's 15 inch viewable area (about the same viewable area as a 17 inch old fashion monitor)

18 inch LCD flat panels would be very close a 21 inch old fashion monitor. If you go to 20 inch in a flat panel add another grand or more.

Prices vary, you have to shop around. So many LCD's on the market today.

NEC Makes one of the nicest 20" LCD Monitors around, it is stunning with absolutely flat screen, excellent contrast and 1280x1024 resolution - but at $4500 a pop it should be nice.
