Granola:

I think we saw the beginnings of buying today. Unfortunately, IMO it's likely that the buyers here will not be the momentum traders who can crank the stock back up rapidly. The talkers on CNBC who have rated DELL a "buy" here are all "value" types. Though we're sure to see our share of traders who will play the minor ups and downs, the big money that can push DELL up in a hurry and keep it at elevated valuations are likely to stay away until there is either significant news or a significant revenue/earnings/margins surprise on the upside.

The last time DELL broke decisively below its 200 day MA was in 1/96, and it took 3 months until 4/96 before the stock recovered for good above the 200 day MA again. I think that's likely to be the scenario here -- a slow recovery for a couple of months until either the August earnings or something startling from MD himself.

In the meantime, I still have my 1/3 in case I'm dead wrong, plus some cash on hand, though that may find its way into greener pastures if this recovery turns out to be for real and not just a fake-out.

As a friend of mine is fond of saying: "these are mean times, and in the mean time(s), we have to learn to live under water".
