I guess what you need is a paradigm shift. See what you are doing is looking at this from the prospective of someone holding shares that he bought at a higher price. Try this. Pretend the price of AOL is $120 and you have umm say $120,000 to buy... Now.. You like AOL You hold no shares of AOL at the moment. So... Do you just go ahead and buy 1000 shares at $120? Not if you are human. You say ...hey let's see if some poor desperate sap will sell me 1300 shares at $90 (Admit it all of you, that is exactly what goes through your mind) So your order sits there on your screen, blinking......................................................... ........................... ................................................... . . . . . . .. . But it doesn't fill... The price does come down To $115 though... . . . . . . . (you think to yourself) Ok maybe $90 was a little silly, Bet someone might sell for $100 Ok change the order to 1200 shares at $100 , Broker BOB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Now you have been sitting watching the screen for an eternity (17 minutes) And you say...Oh Jeezzzzzz What If I miss the next run to ..$388.125 Oh man. Oh man...Oh man.... Oh what the heck...market order in for 1000 shares... <filled at $114.75> OK OK OK HOT DOG HOT DOG I AM AN AOL SHAREHOLDER WHOOPPEEEE! NOW IT CAN EASILY RUN TO $200 AND SPLIT 2 FOR 1...WONDER WHAT i WILL BUY Price drops to $110 Oh boy, oh boy...that's ok ...It's just $5000 only 4% we're ok DON'T PANIC Price drops to $105 OH MY GOD! IT IS IN FREE FALL. I AM DOOMED. I WILL END UP EATING KAL KAN ON A SUBWAY GRATE. NOOOOOOOO! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . .. . . . . . . . . . . .. Believe it or not...some people actually panic and sell at that point... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Can you believe IT?
