John, gold is still used a a store of value in SE Asia & India (more silver there). Aside it is also an industrial commodity. Regardless of inflation demand of gold is relatively stable and may be rising.

Bank selling is depressing gold as Banks can now hedge themself for inflation due to a variety of financial products, not in existance on before 1990 or so.
