Mitsumi to suppy phone-CATV devices to AT&T unit
TOKYO, June 3 (Reuters) - Mitsumi Electric Co Ltd said on Thursday it had agreed with a unit of U.S. telecom carrier AT&T Corp (NYSE:T - news) to supply equipment for a local telephone system that utilises cable television lines.

Mitsumi said it and Arris, a joint venture between Nortel Networks Corp of Canada and U.S. communications technology firm Antec Corp (Nasdaq:ANTC - news), would jointly develop ''voice ports,'' or equipment that connects individual telephone users to cable television networks.

Voice ports will be made by Mitsumi and supplied to the AT&T unit, AT&T Broadband & Internet Service, Mitsumi said.

This new feature enables you to use a telephone modem to dial in to @Home
I'd like to hear more about this if anyone knows. How much does dialup cost? Is it available to all @home users? Are there national/international numbers you can use? etc.
I wonder how much extra revenue this dial up service might bring in. Most people dont even seem to know it exists.
Any idea if the dialup is pure ATHM or are they rebranding someone elses dialup service (AT&T?).
I have my doubts that ATHM will aquire AT&T worldnet because a natural outfall of that would be for AT&T to gain an even greater % ownership of ATHM. I suspect that would make the cable partners quite nervous.
