I am a terrible market timer. To me it is the "unknown X" in the equation, and should be treated much like one does in algebra.
if X + 2 = 4 , then we must get rid of the "X" and leave it by itself to solve the equation; X = 4 - 2 .
Investing to me is very similar in that you concentrate on the "known values" and ignore the "unknown" which in this case happens to be Mr. Market the Manic. Sometimes I forget to leave him alone by himself and I forget that he is mentally ill. When I am really greedy or afraid I start to listen to him and all his noise, and it further compounds my confusion. The only question really is how much is the company worth and how much is it trading for. I have tried to get to know as many of the "knowns", in order to determine the value. I am still long on the stock and I am not selling at these pitiful low levels. However, when I am weighted in a particular stock relative to my over all portfolio, it would take a significant discount to entice me to increase my weighting. I could care less what the stock does from here, and feel I will win either way. I feel comfortable with the value that continues to be created at EWD. I hope the stock drops to the depths.... and I hope it climbs to the heavens. A strange state of mind to be in, I must admit.
