Yammer posted it correctly. He said nothing I disagree with. How can I post some rule that does not exist?? You seem to be saying the only way one can hypothicate is to have a margin account, that in effect hypothication is another word for margin accounts.

I can't readily prove that this does NOT exist. More appropriate would be for you to post proof that there IS A RULE that says hypothication = margin period.

This simply is not so. The link to Yammer Message 7881484 agrees with what I have just stated above.

"margin" per se does not make stock borrowable, it is the hypothication agreement that for most retail investors is what "a margin account is." But it ain't.

Also, as Yammer said, indirectly, there's a 30 day rule before you will see any real volume of shares available for hypotication or borrowing. With that I agree. Yammer has it correct.
