Zakrosian,
Hitachi has been supporting research at Cambridge University for quite some time. Their work in nanotechnology and light emitting polymers has been very interesting.

Thank you for the article on the new technology breakthrough.

I think the size of the Cambridge chip that is a greater selling point than its capacity. Like flash memory it can be used in areas too small and too hostile for disks with flying heads.

If disks continue their 80% annual growth rate they should be producing about 420 gb per platter in 2006. However, they have theoretical limits that will require some new technologies. You can be sure the Cambridge technology will be looked at by many research centers.
