Rich, I have several (>5) friends that have worked for CSCO in direct sales for a few years. Let me characterize them:
1. Rich
2. Tired
3. Can retire early

It is a stressful job. Hitting the numbers month-to-month is THE thing. You don't perform--you're out. A lot of pressure.

Good telemarketing support to find leads.

Once you get your territory cooking, they cut it in half and give it to a newby.

Good training. Good infrasturture. Good technical sales support.

A typical high-tech sales job for a high-flying, well managed company!
