Usually 9.6 and 14.4 kbps respectively, but there are some GSM systems that have cranked up to 14.4 now. However, this is being replaced this year with 56kbps with HSCSD, but more importantly next year will see the first live GPRS systems: packet switched at up to 115 kbps.

Thanks for the response...but I was actually speaking more in terms of handsets. Are there handsets available (now or by the end of the year) which will be able to take advantage of these data rates? Also how will the increased data rates impact the overall number of users allowed on the system? I guess what I am getting at is that the advantage of CDMA, in theory, is greater bandwidth. Will the new systems start to make GSM systems capacity constrained? TIA....
