Michelle,

The postal service turns a small profit every year. They set their rates so they are self-sustaining.

Yes... I was also surprised to learn that the USPS became self funding at some point, I did not know the details, and certainly I did not know that it had been since the 70's

As for efficiency.... that is a matter of opinion, if the USPS were a private enterprise, I would not be surprised that either, the postage would be less expensive, or the entire enterprise, by now, had already been bought-out.

Just my own "wild-ass estimation", as I am not an expert in ... er, being postal <g>

However, as to your reference, by someone inside the service, I would be suspect... Same as if I were to ask the AMZN officers the wisdom of an "investment" in it.

I used the comparison to the USPS, as it was given to me in the first place, as an example....

Even if we accept the premise that the USPS has become self funding, (implying that AMZN will do likewise, sometime in the distant future, perhaps it will take as long as it did for the USPS).... can you imagine the implications of replacing the expression...

"Go Postal"... with "Go AMAZOMBIE" <g>
