Joan, that is a very interesting point. Implicit in most religious beliefs is the idea that there are practical limits to a deity's abilities. Religion has waffled on the idea of limits to omnipotence -- whether banishing evil, ridding the world of disasters, or rewarding the righteous.

I think it is fair to say that most religions treat God as a superior being, but not an omnipotent one. Which religions explore the limits of God's powers?

I think that the same reservations may well hold for omniscience.

I wonder if some of the believers on this thread could fill us in on these issues.
