Someone posted this on Yahoo. I don't see it on the news services, or on the CDCO web page. Wonder why not? CIDCO Teams With Telcos to Make Network Voice Mail Easier to Use and Increase Customer Acquisitions; Initiative Designed To Recruit New Subscribers For Telephone Companies Nationwide Business Editors and High-Tech Writers Business Wire - June 01, 1999 09:49 Now with the VM100, telcos can offer customers an enticing service package that will make voice mail retrieval easier than before. Sprint is the first in a series of telcos expected to purchase the VM100 in its effort to enhance its existing network voice mail service for subscribers. Through CIDCO's relationships with the world's leading telcos, CIDCO has developed easy-to-use access to advanced intelligent network services such as Caller ID, central office voice mail and call forwarding/call waiting - all of which have enabled telcos to design program initiatives to recruit customers. The VM100 is CIDCO's first product dedicated solely to telephone company network voice mail service and provides users with a plug and play, out-of-the-box solution to interface with call management features. Normally, network voice mail users would manually go through a series of steps to access a centrally located message database to retrieve their voice mail messages. The VM100 eliminates this manual process by providing the form and functionality of an answering machine. The product features an indicator light which alerts the user that a new message is present, eliminating the need to lift the handset; a built-in speaker for message retrieval; and a dedicated voice mail access key with an automatic dial function. The VM100 comes standard with easy access for play, save, erase, back, forward, skip and replay functions. The user will no longer be required to remember and enter access codes and passwords. Other telcos are expected to offer the VM100 to their customers as well. "The VM100 has been developed with the input and support of these companies to improve retention of voice mail subscribers by offering a simplified, convenient way to access messages and navigate network voice mail features," said Mark Jensen, Director of Product Management for CIDCO products. "After programming the VM100 Dial Voice Mail key with telephone and unique PIN numbers, accessing the network becomes automatic, further simplifying voice mail functionality."
