Actually, this started with Vidrine's claim that Christianity was responsible for the freedom od speech provisions of the American constitution. I consider his claim ludicrous. Religions in general, not just Christianity, are not terribly tolerant of heterodox thinking.

"Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" does not apply when that truth contradicts dogma. That's why the Inquisition and Galileo and.... are relevant. And Jones and Koresh- -they were not exactly tolerant of influences that might lead their sheep "astray".
