Sun,

re: OEMs
It appears that most of the PC's out there from the OEM's are using TNT and Rage Pro for their "standard" card. These are probably motherboard options. Of course the exception to this are the high-end machines, but there really isn't any volume up there. This is why I think the many motherboard deals are important. It's telling me that these guys (ASUS et. al.) are seeing demand from the OEMs for these products. A demand that wasn't there (apparently) for the Banshee.

re: Entertainment Platform
This will never happen until 3dfx creates a set-top/gameboy/console of their own. Until then they are just another video card. As a matter of fact, I think 3dfx may be stretching too far to support 3 platforms (OpenGL, DX, Glide). Given that OpenGL can support proprietary extensions it really doesn't make that much sense that 3dfx continue to develop Glide at all. The only real advantage is that Glide is faster and easier to use. In the past it was much faster and much easier. The differences now are becoming minimal, and if 3dfx is having to delay products because they are concerned with reverse Glide compatibility we have a big problem.

re: Technology leader
They haven't been the technology leader since TNT came on scene. Given that, I think their sales performance has been stellar. I think it is more important that 3dfx be the mindshare leader. A move to the technology front now would probably put them way ahead of the pack quickly. If NVIDIA were to falter in technology I think we'd quickly find out that the emperor has no clothes. It is my opinion that NVIDIA is biting of more than they can chew this time around.
