<<Speaking of analyst ratings, why do they favor Gateway over Dell.?
What puts Gateway in a better position than Dell?>>

Let me take this one.

Do you remember a couple of months ago (January, I think,) when a caller on CNBC's "Taking Stock" afternoon segment asked what the guest thought of DELL?

The analyists said something to the effect that DELL has reached the law of high numbers (meaning it can't possibly go any higher based on valuation, I think,) and that he highly recomended switching to CPQ from DEll, becasue, in his opinion, CPQ looked "cheaper."

Well, you know what happend to CPQ a month later, no?

So what was your question, again?

Zead

Walcalla, RE: Speaking of analyst ratings, why do they favor Gateway over Dell.? What puts Gateway in a better position than Dell?

Valuation is obviously one reason. But beyond that, a possible reason is the mix of consumer vs. business sales. GTW is stronger in the consumer area (relatively) and DELL is much stronger in business sales. The numbers for the year to date reflect that consumer sales are booming and business sales are lagging. In addition, Y2K is not expected to have much of an effect on consumer sales, while the effect on business sales is uncertain at best.
