Hi Dave and Frank:

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. From Dave's answer I
can deduce that Copper Mountain's current focus on SDSL and
IDSL fits well DSL deployments by CLECs now, but faces major
hurdles going forward. I must admit I was taken aback by
CMTN's PSR = 30, but maybe I am too old fashioned.

On the DSLAM side, the growth projections for 99 and 00
are very interesting, since they suggest that the DSLAM
market will flatten out extremely quickly. In essence,
they also indicate that for smaller companies such as
PAIR which seek to participate in the DSLAM market, the
next 18 months are do or die.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy

Re: Netopia / DSL Play

dave,
Thanks very much for your list of DSL companies/products.

I added Netopia to my list of DSL plays. I like where they are positioning themselves in the DSL Broadband market place. In just doing a cursory review, it's clear where they are heading and I think it's a great vision(so do others judging by the recent price action).

One thing I don't understand is why you believe their DSL router product, the R7100, would fall under the category of CO equipment? It appears, at a cursory glance, that they sell their entire line of products/services directly to small/mid-size businesses (which I happen to think is a great idea). I do not see where the CLECs or ISPs purchase their products? It appears they only sell Netopia products and services.

Just want to make sure I'm on the right track as I do my DD on Netopia.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)

Hi dave,

Thanks for the informative post.

Among the CO equipment vendors/product list I did not see mention of Lucent. Are they not in this market? RedBack Networks also comes to mind as a DSLAM vendor with a lot of momentum right now.

Wondering if you have a URL for In-Stat?

TIA, Ry
