In the U.S., the Bureau of Land Management conducted a lease sale which included parcels in Kern County. Topping the list in bidding value was a 1,080-acre plot near the Elk Hills field and a 642-acre parcel near the Cal Canal field.

The area has been a hotbed of activity involving Canadian operators. I will attempt a follow up story on the sale after more details are learned.
